Microstory: The Infinite Sky

The cowboys grew tired of riding the trails, sleeping on hard ground, underneath the infinite sky. Their insignificance terrified them.

Leaving horses, worn saddles, and tack, they walked away from the prairie, to wives, warm beds, and left the old life behind.

Motherly Advice

My mother's concern that my clothing might reflect poorly on her, in the event of an emergency, was amusing to an eighteen year old. I promised her that I would always wear clean underwear.

I did.

But we never discussed going commando.
