The Day The Snack Machine Broke

Cameron spotted George and Bill, shoving at each other as they raced down the stairs. He ran after them, followed by Cindy. Soon the entire building stood silently at the curb, money in hand, as the tinny music slowly rolled toward them.

  1. I remember grabbing coins from the house and running three blocks over - trying to DF the ice cream truck and get there in front of my sister. You captured that feeling.

  2. What lovely memories. I recall the ice cream man! Sigh, my daughter doesn't, sadly. Thanks for this.

  3. I love how you portray the action, then the agonizing wait..."tinny music" is perfect.

  7. We all become children when we hear the ice cream truck, don't we? (and I tend to hear Eddie Murphy in my head. LOL)

What a fantastic way to look at the question.

  8. I laughed my butt off imagining grown-ass men running after the ice cream truck. Hilarious!

  9. Relatable to the child in all of us! I always went for the ice cream with the gum at the bottom :)

  10. I'm lucky there are no vending machines in the building where I work. I've wasted so much money over the years. But, oh, what I wouldn't give for an ice cream truck. Or, as my brother told his children it was called so they wouldn't beg for sweets, the "music appreciation truck."

  13. Without writing it, I saw men with their suit jackets and ties flapping in the wind, the distinct cadence of women running in heels. Such a robust picture in my head. Great job, Tina!

  14. I think the tinny music gets everyone! You let out a little at a time, then reveal the last scene with great subtlety. I love that in a gargleblaster!

  15. I love the little scenario you created. I remember running for the ice cream truck after jumping out of the pool in the backyard. All the kids around would be there, lined up.

  16. I can picture this perfectly. (An aside, our town's ice cream truck plays the most forlorn music ever. Husband and I are convinced it is some dirge.)

  17. Love the image of them all lined up, clutching their money. Perhaps jostling each other. < 3
