Mushroom Cloud

Detritus now.

Remains of a day in August

A Geiger counter's chaff.

Gone--

The residue, who we were,

The leavings, what we were,

The rubble, where we were.

Never will be a why.

The prompt is a picture of shadows on a wall.  I remembered that the bombing in Hiroshima/Nagasaki took place this coming week, and I recalled that there were shadows of the people killed on the walls that were left standing.

  1. I love the leavings, the residue and the rubble -- This is really imaginative.

  2. Well now, wasn't that just excellent! Serious. Sobering. But, excellent, just the same. You are a wonderful writer, if I do say so myself! :)

  4. Leavings, residue and rubble - powerful word choices. There isn't a good answer for 'why.'

  5. That is SOOOOO good! I was actually thinking of those same shadows as I read - so your words evoked exactly what you'd seen!
