Surviving Trauma

HEAL:  3: to restore to original purity or integrity

Our innocence
often slips silently
into the murkiness
of the world,
shattering on some
intrusion of reality,
before we even realize
it has fallen.
Those lost shards cut deep,
and once gone,
can never be fully retrieved,
and thus can never truly heal.
Still we must gather up
what pieces we can find,
bind them up, and
create a new innocence
from the old
so we can go on living.

  1. This is dark but hopeful. Sometimes, I feel exactly like this. Great work.

  2. I like the idea of picking up the pieces to create a new innocence, rather than living in the absence of innocence.

  3. This is lovely! I can imagine the innocence falling onto stone and shattering like a glass. Great job!
