I Wonder What This Story Is About
Zane often leaves his toys strewn about after a day of play, and when I am not stepping on them, I try to imagine just what sort of shenanigans his toys are involved in, at least when Zane is playing with them. Sometimes I take pictures.
"So Thor and Arctic Batman walk into a bar..."
"Arctic Batman and his friend Brontosaurus decided to fly to Vegas for the weekend, and they ran into Thor at the airport..."
"Brontosaurus was actually a world class airplane pilot, but Thor and Arctic Batman thought he was stealing the plane and tried to arrest him..."
"...And they all headed off to the nearest karaoke bar, to sing some Three Dog Night songs and drink peppermint schnapps."
You know, I was much better at this imagination thing when I was a kid. I probably should have written some of those stories down.
Also, Thor appears to have put on a little weight.
****This was a NON-Valentine post! Mostly because I ate all of the chocolate in the entire house. But still...

Life's Minor Interruptions

Blogging consistently gets hard sometimes, when you're a mom. While I'd like to think that moms and dads divide the work of raising a family equally somehow, the fact is that most of the time, I'm the one the boy runs to for help. It just ends up that way, through nobody's fault, at least for right now. I'm also the one that the pets run to, as well. I am pretty sure that this is only because I'm usually the one feeding them all, but there's always the possibility that they like me, too.
While our cat Zena and our pup Maisy have bonded and do all of the wonderful racing around the house and the backyard, my cat Pounce has remained upstairs, under the bed. She will come out when I am up there, and sometimes when Larry is up there, but she is afraid of Zane. And Maisy. And she isn't really fond of Zena. So I am, for the most part, her sole source of interaction, play, cuddles, scritches, and hugs.
So when I am in the computer room, after everyone has gone to sleep, Pounce creeps out from under the bed, and comes to find me. I am typing away on my blog, and then there's a cat in front of the screen. I pet her a moment, then put her on the chair next to me so I can finish typing.
A second later, she is back, and this time she strolls across the key board, inadvertently deleting what I just typed. I pet her while I say a few curse words under my breath, then I put her on the chair again. Just as my fingers begin to retype, there's Pounce, and this time she is sitting on the mouse. Since she is purring loudly, I know that she is wanting affection, but she is starting to drive me a little insane. I want to finish my thoughts, hit publish, and go to bed. Pounce has other plans. I can't close the door to the room because it is late and she'll wake up the house with her meowing. I feel sorry for her, that she is so locked into her crazy that she won't trust the rest of the house at all. Maisy would love to play with her, and Zane is just waiting to pet her.
If only she would come out from under the bed when everyone is awake.

Explorers Ahoy!
Zane and I went to the park this morning! It was nice and cool, with a bit of a breeze. We walked through the middle of the park, venturing off the walking path to climb on rocks and sticks and creepy-crawlies.

Boys can't go exploring without looking for a big stick. It's a rule or something.
This is the web of a funnel web weaver spider. They build their webs on the ground and hide inside their 'funnels'.

We found some fake dinosaur tracks to poke with the previously mentioned stick.

There were 'huge-big' rocks for little boys to climb on, and Zane had tons of fun climbing to the top.

"I'm king of the world, Mom!"
I sometimes forget how much I like to walk through parks, exploring. It's nice that I have Zane to go exploring with me. I hope we find a snake next week!

Semi-Wordless Wednesday
As some of you know, we got snow here in San Antonio on Friday, February 4th. We got 4/10ths of an inch, and it shut down the interstates and all the schools.

I know what you're thinking. You are thinking, "OMG! Those people in San Antonio are LAME! We've had 14 feet of snow here in the last five minutes and we still got to school on time!" You are probably rolling your eyes at us, too. I don't blame you--I rolled my eyes, too. Until I went outside in my flip flops, and realized that under that 4/10ths of an inch of snow was an inch of ice. Then I was glad they cancelled school.

We got Zane up, put his coat on, got him outside. After all, there's snow out there, and it hasn't snowed here since 1985! And what kid doesn't just LOVE snow?

Zane went outside. His dad made him a couple of snowballs. He threw them, and then he was done. Total time outside: 5.8 minutes. We went back inside, and this is how I know that Zane is my child:
