It Made Me Smile

Zane and I were enjoying a couple of freshly made tortillas the other day. We always put a little butter on them when they are still warm, because we like them that way.

Butter is a comfort food. Slather a bit of melty butter on a piece of warm bread, and I am assured that all will be right with the world, at least for a few moments. When I was a kid, butter sandwiches felt like a luxury, and rated right up there with gravy bread. These days I can't eat as much butter as I'd like, because of that whole health thing.  When I do eat butter, I make it an event. An event that I love to share with my boy.

On this special occasion, Zane took a contented bite of his tortilla.

"I love butter," he said. "It tastes like people holding hands."***

I smiled, and the warm feeling in my chest had nothing to do with the butter.

5.) Something that made you smile this week.

***I have no idea what people holding hands tastes like.  I choose to not think about how my child might have arrived at his conclusion.  Because, ick.

  1. Butter equals comfort. That made me smile, too. Kids have the most amazing way of tying things together.

  3. I'm a butter lover, too. It has to be the real stuff or I'm going without. I agree with Zane (where'd he come up with that cute thing?).
