Just 'Cuz

"Zane, stop throwing your toys at the television."

"Why?"

"Because you'll break it."

"Why?"

"Because it's a television and it's not made by Fisher Price."

"Why?"

"Because they don't make televisions."

"Why?"

"Because they are busy making other toys."

"Why?"

"AAARGH!!!! Stop saying that!"

"Why?"

(face palm)

"Why you do that, Mama?"

"Because you're driving me crazy, son."

"Why?"

(Rips out hair)

Please, please, PLEASE, somebody tell me that this is a very short phase of development. I am afraid that I am going to start hitting myself in the head out of frustration...and never stop!

  1. If I remember correctly (or maybe I've just blocked it out after 15 years) it's under 6 months but more than 3 months. I would just reply with...because.

    Why?
    Because!
    Why?
    Because!

They get bored after a while and stop.

  2. To save your sanity I'll lie through my teeth and tell you this: It will stop as quickly as it came. Kinda like gas.

Naaa, sorry hon. Wanna get a drink later?!? It will at least dull the edges...

    But why?

  3. LMAO!!! Lizbeth, I may need that drink--or several!!

Marisa, I will have to try that "Because" thing--I will try anything at this point, and maybe it will work!

  4. Seems I remember throwing a "why do you think?" in there once and awhile (not in a snarky tone, as most of my other demands are, but more as if I was really interested in the answer...but maybe thru gritted teeth).

  5. I'm sorry to tell you but they STILL get the occasional why phase when they get older.

I welcome comments, but reserve the right to correct your spelling because I am OCD about it!
