WOE: The Race

Write On Edge prompt:  This week we had the choice of three Olympic-inspired prompts.  I chose 100 words on a conflict, competition, or game. 


The daughter of Narcissus, Ariana, challenged the god Apollo to a footrace. His laughter rolled across the land like thunder.  It amused him to accept, and the race was begun.  Apollo ran the swiftest, yet Ariana had planned. She had placed mirrors on the trees along the path. Apollo paused to admire his reflection, and Ariana ran past him. Each time Apollo raced to catch up with the maiden, another mirror appeared, and while he was transfixed by his radiance, Ariana won the race. 

Races are won by those who would use their brains as well as their feet.
