Daddy taught me the car stuff, and the two of them together pretty much taught me about marriage. But the check balancing thing totally threw me for a loop. To this day, I keep a ridiculous amount of extra money in our checking account because I'm so fearful of bouncing. And fighting? I'd say my husband taught me that one! gretchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00952840544630534206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1079589059457212218.post-41025891107314512892013-03-14T17:40:26.810-05:002013-03-14T17:40:26.810-05:00I learned how to balance a checkbook by working fo...I learned how to balance a checkbook by working for a bank. I did learn to sew and cook in home econ but mostly from my mom. How awesom...I never did learn how to throw a punch. How awesome that your dad taught you that!

I took home ec in the 8th grade. We didn't have sewing machines in there but we did learn to thread a needle and do a simple stitch. We made these little stuffed dinosaurs out of denim fabric that we stitched together by hand. Mine looked pitiful. I was so embarrassed. Sadly, my sewing never got much better and I never have learned how to use a sewing machine.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08209297120840809760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1079589059457212218.post-56749513152518933602013-03-14T12:22:57.475-05:002013-03-14T12:22:57.475-05:00Marriage class would have been super helpful with ...Marriage class would have been super helpful with a 101 on how to not date a jerk lolmryjhnsnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08957396450720425382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1079589059457212218.post-11152542933989499402013-03-14T10:57:33.518-05:002013-03-14T10:57:33.518-05:00That's cool your Dad taught you how to throw a...That's cool your Dad taught you how to throw a punch without breaking fingers. A skill I still have not learned, though I have longed to try it a few times in my life!
We actually did have a class in high school called marriage and family life. It replaced traditional home ec. I learned two things there that have served me well:
When fighting with your spouse, do not bring up every shortcoming the man has ever had.
and
Your children need consistency.
If I learned nothing else that semester, these two gems have made a difference for my family.Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03485338098212307793noreply@blogger.com
